Godwin – Windell Wayne “Popo” Godwin, age 85, of Macclenny, Florida passed away on September 22, 2021, at Community Hospice Dr. Gaston J. Acosta-Rua Center for Caring in Jacksonville, Florida with his loving family by his side. He was born June 4, 1936, in Oak Grove, Florida to the late Lawerance Floyd Godwin and Annie Godwin. Windell served his country proudly in the United States Army where he met the love of his life, Sunya Kim Godwin in Seoul, South Korea. After they were happily married, Windell and Sunya made Baker County their forever home in August of 1962. Windell enjoyed his career as a Plumber at Department of Corrections at Florida State Prison where he served for 35 years before retiring. He also enjoyed being outdoors, watching nature and chewing Red Man tobacco in the green pack. In his younger years, Windell loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and reading. He especially enjoyed Western’s written by Louis L’amour, but more than anything, Windell loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sunya Kim Godwin; son, William Wayne Godwin; granddaughter, Tessa Lynn Godwin; and 8 siblings. Windell is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Benny) Fish of Glen St. Mary, FL; granddaughter, Mia Leigh Fish; sister, Una Ann Miller of Georgia; his caregiver, Eylana Atkinson; and his dog, Theo. A Celebration of Windell’s life will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 3:00 pm at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor Richard Fish and Pastor Mark Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery where military honors will be rendered. The family will receive friends on Saturday an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
