Sheppard- Shirley “John Wayne” Ann Sheppard, age 68, of Lawtey, Florida passed away on January 21, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Miami, FL on December 10, 1953, to the late Cecil Manning and Gladys Sheppard. John Wayne was raised in Miami and attended high school while there. She relocated to Bradford County when she was 18 and has made Bradford her forever home ever since. John Wayne began working as a seamstress in the local sewing factory for both Starke and Lake Butler. She spent many years sewing before she started her new journey in cosmetology school. After graduating from the cosmetology program, she worked from home making all her friends and family look beautiful. John Wayne enjoyed singing, dancing, and cooking. She loved cats and any stray cat she found she would take as her own to love. John Wayne had a big heart and was always willing to help others. She was a true caregiver to so many. More than anything, John Wayne loved her family; especially her son and grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, John David Sheppard. John Wayne is survived by her son, Donny Koehler of Eastman, GA; grandchildren, Hunter Koehler, Dauntay Reyes, and Carlos Reyes all of Labelle, FL; surrogate daughter, Crystal Reyes of Lawtey, FL; sister-in-law, Vera (William) Mann of Lakeland, FL; niece’s, Anna Gebler and Kellie Mann; and nephew’s, Brandon (Brittany Lee) Sheppard and Lamar (Ashley) Sheppard. A Celebration of Shirley “John Wayne’s” Life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Archie Tanner Memorial Chapel with pastor Lester Austin officiating. Interment will follow at Lawtey Cemetery. The family will receive friends starting at 11:30 am and the service will commence at noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request to please make donations to the funeral home to help with the funeral expense since Shirley did not have insurance.
