August 1, 1952 - September 11, 2021
Wheeler – Phillip “Curley” Wayne Wheeler, age 69, of Macclenny, Florida went to his Heavenly home on September 11, 2021, at Ed. Fraser Memorial Hospital in Macclenny, Florida. He was born on August 1, 1952, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Roy C. Wheeler and Lucille Rupe Wheeler. Curley was raised in Jacksonville where he was able to help his family with their family businesses, LP Gas Company and a local junkyard while growing up. He met the love of his life, Janis Council, and they were happily married on June 11, 1973. Shortly after their marriage, Curley joined the United States Army where he proudly served our country at the Ft. Benning Army Base in Columbus, Georgia. After his honorable discharge from the military, Curley followed his skill that he found early in life, working in the automotive industry. He served multiple car dealerships in the Jacksonville area, where he gained the knowledge he needed to open his shop, Complete Fleet, which he ran a few years in Jacksonville before relocating to his forever home in Baker County. He opened Auto Tech in Glen St. Mary and proudly served the folks in our community with his automobile expertise. Curley will certainly be remembered for all the lives he touched, as well as his Batmobile that he had in front of his shop for years. More than anything, Curley loved his Lord and Savior with all his heart and enjoyed reading the Word of God daily. He was an active member of Raiford Road Church, and he loved his prison and county jail ministry, Shoulder to Shoulder. Most of all, Curley loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with all of his children and grandchildren. Curley was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Kyle. Curley is survived by his loving wife, Janis Wheeler of Macclenny, FL; 3 children, Christopher Wheeler of Macclenny, FL, Joshua (Christina) Wheeler of Charleston, SC, and Leah (Tye) Murphy of Macclenny, FL; brother, Charles Wheeler of CO; sisters, Mary Wheeler of NC, and Della Wheeler of CA; 5 grandchildren, Riley, Morgan, Kyle, River, and Abbey; 1 great-grandson, Noah. A Celebration of Curley’s life will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. at Raiford Road Church with Pastor Eddie Griffis officiating.
