July 30, 1930 - October 27, 2020
Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Margaret Alleman Kirkland, age 90, returned home to her loving Heavenly Father on October 27, 2020. She passed away peacefully at her home in Glen St. Mary FL surrounded by her loving husband and children. Margaret was born on July 30, 1930 and raised in Springville, UT, the second oldest child of Frederick Benjamin and Elizabeth Gordon Alleman. Her siblings, Betty Jean, Richard, Carol Ann and Collene were very dear to her. She often spoke of growing up in Utah and her love of the mountains although her life was spent in Florida raising her own family. She was a proud member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, an organization dedicated to preserving the history of the original Mormon pioneers, still dedicated to her Utah roots. Margaret met her eternal partner and husband of 67 years, Granvel Sidney Kirkland, while they were attending Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. They were married on September 18, 1953 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Margaret worked an accounting job at Brigham Young University to support them while her new husband was finishing his degree. After Granvel served time in the military, they moved to Florida where Granvel attended law school at the University of Florida. Ever by his side, Margaret worked as an executive secretary with Granvel after his law practice opened in Macclenny, FL and they settled into their permanent home in Glen St. Mary. In their spare time, Margaret and Granvel enjoyed traveling with their friends and family to Bluegrass Festivals in their motorhome. Margaret was a devoted wife and doted on her beloved sweetheart their entire married life. Anyone who knew Margaret commented on her quiet strength, her love for those around her, her selfless dedication to Church and family and her sweet and comforting demeanor. Her husband and family were her pride and joy. She was an exemplary wife, mother and daughter of her Heavenly Father her entire life. Margaret was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many capacities throughout her life including Scout Leader, Relief Society President and in the Primary for the youth of the Macclenny Ward. Margaret was a beloved staple in Primary and loved working with all the children throughout the years. The absolute joy of her life were her children and grandchildren. We’re all deeply saddened by Mom and Grandma’s passing and will forever be grateful that we were blessed to be in her life. We, her children, Margaret Ellen Kirkland Dickson, Jared O’Neil Kirkland (Melinda) and Jonathan Sidney Kirkland and her 8 beautiful grandchildren, Meagan Grimes (who predeceased her in April 2017), Nairn Higginson, Jacob Higginson, Makenna Dickson, Logan Kirkland, Pierce Kirkland, Kali Faulk and Amber Faulk will forever love and miss her. Viewing will be held on Friday, November 6th from 5-7pm at Ferreira Funeral Services. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 7th at 11am at Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of V. TODD FERREIRA FUNERAL SERVICES, 250 North Lowder Street, Macclenny, FL 32063 (904)259-5700.
