July 20, 1940 - June 30, 2021
James “Bud” Ray Staggs, age 80, of Macclenny, passed away on June 30, 2021. An incorrigible cutup, lovable kidder, and overall card, this cherished handful breathed his last after an extended convalescence. Born July 20, 1940 in Columbia, Tennessee, to the late Nathan Staggs and Eva (Rigsby) Staggs, Bud served as a corpsman in the United States Navy and trained as an X-ray technologist before relocating to Macclenny. Known for his skill in both old-school and contemporary X-ray techniques, he was greatly respected by his colleagues and superiors alike. Loquacious in nature, Bud enjoyed telling a good story, especially one that detailed his shenanigans. However, he was not a mere entertainer or clown. Bud was a devoted husband of almost 60 years and an adored father. Tirelessly hardworking. Truly selfless. Compassionate. These words describe Bud. He showed unconditional love. He was tenacious. He had grit. Bud had many friends and, in return, was considered true-blue. He could do almost anything: sing, dance, cook, sew, write. He was adept at solving crossword puzzles, was an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan, and was exceedingly partial to sweets. Bud’s 1959 senior yearbook quote was the only one that included an exclamation point. It charged readers to “look not thou down but up!” And this is what we should do. The world is less bright without his jokes, his laughter, his stories, his wisdom and his smile. But he is above, happy and at peace. He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Thompson) Staggs; his children, Cheryl (Patrick) Harris, Richard Staggs, Jeffrey Staggs (Lisa Pallante), Christopher (Suzie) Staggs, Kristin (Shane) Douberly; his grandchildren, Heather (Kevin) Fennell, Jonathan Harris (Justine Christensen), Lance Rayburn Jr., Peyton Staggs, Wesley Staggs, Briar Staggs, Max Staggs; and his nephew, Dean (Dina) Staggs Jr. Mr. Staggs will be returned to his beloved homeland: the great state of Tennessee.
