Griffis – James “Mitchell” Griffis, Sr. age 68, of Starke, Florida passed away on November 30, 2021, at Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay County in Middleburg, FL. He was born in Starke, FL on July 27, 1953, to the late Joe Melton Griffis and Dorothy Lee Cadle Griffis. Mitchell has been a lifelong resident of Bradford County where he attended Bradford High School. Shortly after high school Mitchell started his career at the Department of Transportation where he enjoyed working for 33 years before retiring. On October 5, 1976, Mitchell married the love of his life Sheila Starling Griffis and together they have spent a wonderful 45 years together. Mitchell enjoyed fishing, camping, and all family gatherings. More than anything, Mitchell loved his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jimmy Griffis, Robert Griffis, and Raymond Griffis; and sisters, Hazel Johnson, Patsy Luke, Elaine Griffis, and twin baby girls. Mitchell is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Griffis of Lawtey, FL; children, Mitchell (Chastidy) Griffis, Jr. of Keystone Heights, FL, Joni (Sam) Bryant of Starke, FL, Billy (Kristin) Griffis of Lawtey, FL, and Lance (Jessie) Griffis of Lake Butler, FL; sister, Juanita Willingham of Lawtey, FL; and grandchildren, Cassie, Heather, Leah, Trent, Laney, Ethan, Riley, and Wyatt A Celebration of Mitchell’s life will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021, at 11:00 am at Archie Tanner Memorial Chapel with Pastor Rudy Thornton and Reverend David Hodges officiating. Interment will follow at Crosby Lake Cemetery in Starke, Florida. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care and direction of V.
