    Farid Elais Shunnarah

    November 21, 1946 - May 11, 2022

Shunnarah – Farid “Freddie” Elias Shunnarah, age 75, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on May 11, 2022, at St. Vincent’s Riverside Center for Caring. He was born in Ramallah, Palestine on November 21, 1946, to the late Elias Yacoub Shunnarah and Martha Issis Shunnarah. Freddie was raised in Palestine and relocated to the United States in 1966. Freddie met the love of his life, Deanna Rukab, and they were happily married on May 9, 1971. He had to court her for quite some time, but thankfully his persistence paid off as he found the most amazing loving wife that any man could ask for. He started his career in the grocery business and proudly owned and operated Decker’s Market. After being self-employed for over 10 years, Freddie continued working at various grocery stores. He started at entry level and always moved up to the top in management very quickly. Freddie worked at Pantry Pride, Welcome Food Stores, Winn-Dixie, and finally Food Lion. After his retirement, he couldn’t sit still for long and was always piddling with something to keep busy. He was an avid Gator fan and in his spare time he enjoyed vegetable gardening. Freddie was most passionate about his family and his granddaughter, Sadie Deanna Shunnarah, brought him the most joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elias Yacoub Shunnarah and Martha Issis Shunnarah; loving wife of 51 years, Deanna Rukab Shunnarah; brother, Yacoub Elias Shunnarah (Misada); and sisters, Evelyn Shunnarah Rukab (Nasser), Yasmine Essa Shunnarah (Essa). Freddie is survived by his loving daughters, Julie Martha Shunnarah and Hayley Marie Shunnarah both of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Alice Saba of California and Naiemah Shunnarah of Birmingham, AL; sisters-in-law, Nancy Rukab, Robin Rukab Azzam (George); granddaughter, Sadie Deanna Shunnarah; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved Freddie dearly. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 11:00 am at Ferreira Funeral Services Chaffee Road Chapel. A Celebration of Freddie’s Life will follow on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 12:00 pm at funeral home chapel. Interment will be held at Riverside Memorial Park in the near future. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Ferreira Funeral Services, 1320 Chaffee Road South, Jacksonville, FL, 32221, 904-378-7777.
