Crews- Evelyn “June” Crews, age 74, of Hampton Florida passed away on Wednesday June 8, 2022 at Community Hospice Center for Caring at Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside in Jacksonville, FL with her loving family by her side. June was born in Gainesville, FL on October 21, 1947, to the late James Monroe Tillman and Lula Agnes Griffis Tillman. She grew up in Starke and Raiford where she met the love of her life Wayne Crews on June 14, 1962. June and Wayne were married October 27, 1962 and spent 59 wonderful years together. June and her family resided in Hardee County, FL from 1981-2007 during this time she began her career as a correctional officer at Hardee Correctional Institution. In 2007 June and her family relocated to Hampton, FL where she began working at Lawtey Correctional Institution. After 18 years of serving in corrections June retired and enjoyed the time with her children and grandbabies. June was an avid reader, and her favorite books were romance novels. She spent her free time fishing, gardening, sewing, and shopping. She had a heart for others and spoiled them. Anytime anyone needed anything or simply wanted something she made sure they had it the next time she saw them. June was very compassionate towards animals. She loved her cats and Pekingese dogs. Most of all, June was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Ricky Wayne Crews, Evelyn Joann Crews Stanley and John Leonard; brothers, Leon Tillman, Mitchell Tillman, Donnie Stenson, and James Griffis; sister, Sarah Sue Willingham and Laura Jean Griffin; and granddaughter, Bobby Sue Leonard. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Crews of Hampton, FL; children, Monica (William) Albritton of Hardee County, FL, Teresa (Frank) Yacovoni of Middleburg, FL, Cindy Bishop of Quincy, FL, and Craten (Ashley) Crews of Hampton, FL; brothers, Johnny Griffis, Robert Tillman, and Lamar Tillman; sisters, Paulette Sather and De Stenson; grandchildren, Curtis (Aimee) Stanley, Denise Stanley, Debra (Brandon) Heredia, James (Heidi) Albritton, Christopher (Miranda) Albritton, Ashley Albritton, Terissa (Randall) Griffis Jr., Marissa Kirkland, Darrell (Nicole) Henderson, Aliscia (Shaun) Williams, Keagen Crews, Aleina Crews, and Madison Crews; and many great grandchildren. A Celebration of June’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 13, 2022, at Archie Tanner Memorial Chapel with Pastor Randall Griffis, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Lawtey Cemetery in Lawtey, FL. The family will receive friends and Family at the funeral home an hour prior to the service.
