Crews – David John Crews, age 82, of Kingsley Lake, Florida passed away peacefully on July 8, 2022, at his residence with his loving family by his side. David was born in Jacksonville, Florida on January 15, 1940, to the late Samuel Gilmore Crews and Frieda Syfan Crews. David knew his calling at an early age to help better his community. After graduating high school, he worked for Foremost Dairies, Anchor Hocking Glass Company, and started his real estate investment company. David married his best friend, Bonnie Yvonne Crews, on January 15, 1960 and shortly after in 1964, David began a lengthy career in law enforcement. He served with the County Road Patrol which consolidated to Jacksonville Police Department. After 31 years of dedicated service, David retired in 1995. In the late 1980’s, David and Bonnie relocated and made Kingsley Lake their forever home. David enjoyed attending Kingsley Lake Baptist Church where he was a longtime member. He was an avid Florida Gator football fan and for many years held the record of 101 gallons of blood donated with the blood bank. David was most passionate about his family. He enjoyed family oyster roast and cookouts, making memories with his grandbabies, and traveling all over the United States of America, visiting Hawaii multiple times. He was a devoted husband, loving son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed. David was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Gilmore Crews and Frieda Syfan Crews; son, David Wayne Crews; and siblings, Frieda Crews Sims, Stanley Joseph Crews, Elwell David Crews, Essie Evelyn Crews Carter, and Willie Hazel Crews Sauvage. David is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Bonnie Yvonne Crews of Kingsley Lake, Florida; son, Troy Elwell Crews; grandchildren, Kelly (Clayton) Crews Bailey, Katelyn Danielle (Austin) Crawford, and Jared (Kassidy) Grant Crews; great grandchildren, Rylan, Chip, Sawyer, Roland, and Walter; siblings, Sam Crews, Allen Crews, Charlie Crews, Robert Crews, Raymond Crews, Alice Crews Youngblood, and Carol Crews Harris; along with many extended family members and friends. Family and friends are welcome to the viewing on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm and a Celebration of David’s life on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 11:00 am at Kingsley Lake Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Live Oak Baptist Church Cemetery in Callahan, Florida.
