Griffis – Billie Catherine Griffis, age 79, of Lawtey, Florida passed away on February 27, 2022, at Orange Park Medical Center. She was born on February 3, 1943, in Baker County, Florida to the late Ray Johns and Mildred Hodges Johns. Billie resided in Baker County the majority of her young adult life. After school, she started her longtime career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Billie was passionate about helping others and was able to fulfill this passion with her career. She also enjoyed tending to her family and her sweet children as being a mother was the most important. Billie met the love of her life, Homer Leon Griffis, while serving at Northeast Florida State Hospital, where she worked for over 20 years. Not long after, Homer and Billie were happily married and enjoyed many wonderful years together. In the early 1980’s, they made Lawtey their forever home. Following her time at the hospital, Billie worked at Penney Farms Retirement Community as a CNA until her final retirement. Billie was a simple woman who took much pleasure in the simple things in life. She appreciated the outdoors and loved fishing and also enjoyed the peacefulness of reading. More than anything, Billie loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Homer Leon Griffis; son, Stacy Crawford; brothers, Raymond Johns and Lex Johns; and sisters, Lizzie Mae Johns, Lillian Norman, Irene Yarborough, Janice Johns, and Reba Bennett. Billie is survived by her children, Darrell (Alice) Crawford of Lulu, FL, Sharon (Robert) Marrero of Swainsboro, GA, Kevin (Kimberly Troup) Davis and Mandy (Jacob Blount) Davis both of Starke, FL, and Michele (James) Trollinger of Lawtey, FL; stepchildren, Robert R. Griffis of Baker County, FL, Daryl (Sabrina) Griffis of Glen St. Mary, FL, and Brian Griffis of Glen St. Mary, FL; her sister, Ruth Haspel of Glen St. Mary, FL; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, extended family members and friends. A Celebration of Billie’s Life will be held Monday, March 7, 2022, at 11:00 am, at Ferreira Funeral Services with Mrs. Sharon Marrero officiating. Interment will follow at Highland First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the funeral home.
